During a fellowship to study architecture in Japan, an investigation in free form using traditional bamboo and mud wall techniques was explored at a beachfront site on Awaji. The project was completed by students of the University of Pennsylvania and Waseda University. The project was constructed in 2 days out of rapidly renewable materials (bamboo, hemp, mud and straw) and could be easily modified or repaired without sophisticated knowledge or power tools.
